Michael’s Swiss Inn was founded in 1976 by R. Guy and Joann Michael. It was built by local contractor, Korte Construction, now "The Korte Company".
They designed the Swiss Inn after a family vacation in the Swiss Alps in 1973.
The Inn has 20 rooms surrounding an outdoor swimming pool and is adjacent to Michael’s Restaurant that was also their business.
Michael’s Restaurant was founded by William “Bill” & Vera Michael and R. Guy & Joann Michael in 1956 and is still going strong with the third
generation, Gaye and Susan Michael, carrying on the proud family tradition. The restaurant offers fine dining and rooms for meetings, parties and weddings (up to 300 people).
The Swiss Inn has catered to business and families in Highland and the surrounding areas for more than 26 years under the ownership of Guy & Joann.
In 1987 they added the “Sommer Haus” outdoor gazebo serving food and drinks in a casual outdoor atmosphere.
Today the gazebo is known as Freddy’s Outdoor Bar & Grill. On April 1, 2006 the second generation took the reins as Lisa & Fred Michael took over ownership of the Inn.
They will strive to provide the same great service and hospitality you received from Guy and Joann.
Fred & Lisa were born and raised in Highland, Illinois. Lisa is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and worked for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation for 12 years as a
Controller & Trainer. Fred entered the US Navy after high school and served for 5 years. He then graduated from Southern Illinois University at
Edwardsville and married Lisa in 1989. They have 3 children, Madeline, Emily, and Will.
